Business Data Managers often ask about jitter measurements when they compare the quality of network performance among telecommunications providers. Now, you can tell them that XO Communications guarantees a monthly average network jitter delay of no greater than 1 millisecond (Ms) during any calendar month for our Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) customers. That’s one of the best jitter measurements in the industry.
Also known as delay variation, jitter measures the variation in delivery times of packets of digital information during data transmissions. Imperfections in network hardware or software systems, mechanical or electrical disturbances, and traffic or loading conditions can all influence jitter. The measurement is important to Data Managers because any packet loss could result in an interruption in the timing of audio or video applications, or "real-time" applications such as stock or price quotes.
XO DIA customers now can view individual jitter measurements when they view XOStats for their previous month’s usage.
XO even backs up our Network Jitter Guarantee. If a customer shows that we failed to meet this measurement, we will issue a credit equal to the pro-rated, one-day amount of the Monthly Recurring Charge (MRC) on the Service for the month during which we failed to meet the guarantee.
See the DIA Service Level Agreement on the XO Terms and Conditions site for a view of the Network Jitter Guarantee.
